Sinus Lift Procedures: Building the Foundation for Your Implants

Have you been told you are not a candidate for dental implants in your upper jaw because you "don't have enough bone"? This is a very common issue, but it does not mean the end of your journey.

At Gardens Implant & Cosmetic Dentistry, we perform Sinus Lift Procedures (Sinus Augmentation) to create the solid foundation needed for successful implants.

Your maxillary sinuses are air-filled spaces located just above your upper back teeth. When these teeth are lost, the bone shrinks, and the sinus floor drops down, leaving paper-thin bone that cannot support an implant. A sinus lift is a predictable, safe procedure that gently lifts the sinus floor and adds new bone, making implants possible where they weren't before.

EXPERTISE

Why Choose Gardens for Your Sinus Lift?

A sinus lift is an advanced surgical procedure that requires specialized training. You need a team that understands the delicate anatomy of the sinus and jaw.

  • Periodontal Specialist: Dr. Jesse Lemoine is a board-certified Periodontist. His extensive post-graduate training focused specifically on bone grafting and sinus surgery. This expertise ensures the highest safety standards and success rates.

  • 3D Safety Mapping: We never operate blindly. We use CBCT 3D imaging to visualize the exact size and shape of your sinuses and the location of arteries before we begin. This allows for precise, safe planning.

  • Minimally Invasive Options: Depending on your anatomy, we can often perform an "internal" sinus lift, which is done through the tiny hole made for the implant itself, meaning no extra incisions and faster healing.

PROCEDURE

The Sinus Augmentation Process

We make this sophisticated procedure straightforward and comfortable for you.

  1. Preparation: We numb the area completely with local anesthesia. For your comfort, we also offer IV Sedation so you can sleep through the procedure.

  2. Access: Dr. Lemoine makes a small, precise opening in the gum tissue to access the jawbone.

  3. The Lift: Using specialized instruments, the delicate sinus membrane is gently pushed upward ("lifted") to create space.

  4. Grafting: We pack the newly created space with high-quality bone grafting material. This material acts as a scaffold for your body to grow new, natural bone.

  5. Healing: The site is closed with stitches. Over the next 4-6 months, the graft hardens into solid bone, ready to support your dental implants for a lifetime.

TESTIMONIAL

Patient Success Story: From "Impossible" to Implanted

Actual Patient Scenario

The Challenge: "Anthony," a 60-year-old, had been wearing a partial denture for years to replace his upper molars. He wanted implants, but his general dentist took an X-ray and said his sinus floor had dropped too low, and there was only 2mm of bone left. He was told implants were impossible.

The Solution: Anthony came to Dr. Lemoine for a second opinion. After a 3D scan, Dr. Lemoine confirmed the bone loss but explained that a Lateral Window Sinus Lift could regenerate the necessary height.

The Result: Anthony underwent the procedure with sedation. Six months later, his new bone had matured perfectly. Dr. Lemoine placed two implants, and Anthony now has permanent molars. He told us, "I'm so glad I got a specialist's opinion. Now I can chew anything I want."

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a sinus lift hurt?

Most patients report that the procedure itself is painless due to anesthesia. Post-op recovery is surprisingly mild; many patients say it feels like a sinus cold or congestion for a few days. We provide medication to manage any discomfort.

Can the implant be placed at the same time?

Sometimes. If you have a small amount of existing bone (usually 4-5mm) to stabilize the implant initially, we can perform the sinus lift and place the implant on the same visit. If the bone is extremely thin, we must do the lift first and let it heal for several months before placing the implant.

What kind of bone is used?

We typically use allograft (sterile donor bone) or synthetic bone materials. This avoids the need to harvest bone from another part of your own body, making the recovery much easier and less painful.

How long does it take to heal?

The bone graft typically takes 4 to 6 months to mature and become dense enough to support a dental implant. While this requires patience, it ensures a stable, lifelong result.

Is it safe?

Yes. Sinus lifts have been a routine part of implant dentistry for decades. With Dr. Lemoine’s specialist training and our 3D technology, complications are rare.
