The Dental Implant Process: Your Roadmap to a New Smile

Deciding to get dental implants is a life-changing choice, but it’s normal to have questions about what actually happens during treatment. How long does it take? Will it hurt? When do I get my teeth?

At Gardens Implant & Cosmetic Dentistry, we believe in removing the fear of the unknown. We have refined our implant workflow to be transparent, efficient, and comfortable.

Whether you are replacing a single tooth or restoring your entire smile, your journey follows a predictable path designed to ensure the highest safety and long-term success. Here is your step-by-step guide to becoming a confident patient.

Why Trust Your Journey to Gardens?

Many dental offices refer patients out for different stages of the implant process, one office for surgery, another for the crown. We do it differently.

  • All-in-One Care: From your initial scan to your final smile reveal, every step is handled right here in our Palm Beach Gardens office. You never have to drive to a stranger’s clinic.

  • Specialist Collaboration: Your plan is developed by Dr. Hans Almanzar (Implantologist) and Dr. Jesse Lemoine (Periodontist). This multi-specialty approach ensures both the surgical foundation and the cosmetic result are perfect.

  • Digital Precision: We use 3D CBCT technology to virtually perform your surgery on a computer before we ever touch your mouth. This "digital run-through" ensures your actual procedure is faster, safer, and less invasive.

PROCEDURE

Step-by-Step: What to Expect

While every patient is unique, most implant cases follow this four-step timeline.

Step 1: Consultation & 3D Planning

Duration: 60 Minutes

Your journey begins with a conversation. We discuss your goals and medical history. Then, we take a 3D CT scan to evaluate your bone density and nerve anatomy. Dr. Almanzar will present a customized treatment plan, including transparent pricing and financing options.

Step 2: Surgical Placement

Duration: 1–2 Hours (per arch/area)

This is the "big day," but it is often much easier than patients expect. Under local anesthesia or IV Sedation, we gently place the titanium implant into the jawbone.

  • Note: If you are getting a single front tooth or All-on-4®, we often attach a temporary tooth the same day so you never leave with a gap.

Step 3: Healing & Osseointegration

Duration: 3–4 Months

This is the most critical phase. The implant needs time to fuse with your natural bone (a process called osseointegration). You will be wearing a temporary restoration during this time, so you can smile and eat soft foods comfortably while the magic happens beneath the gums.

Step 4: The Final Restoration

Duration: 2 Visits (Impressions & Delivery)

Once the implant is rock-solid, you return for the final touches. We take a digital impression (no goop!) to design your permanent custom crown or bridge. About two weeks later, we bond your final teeth in place. You are now ready to eat steak, apples, and smile for life!

TESTIMONIAL

Patient Success Story: "I Was Worried for Nothing"

Actual Patient Scenario

The Challenge: "Sandra," 55, needed an implant for a molar but kept canceling her consultation. She admitted she was terrified of the surgery and worried about being in pain for weeks. She needed a clear explanation to feel safe.

The Solution: During her consult, we walked Sandra through her 3D scan, showing her exactly where the implant would go and how far away it was from her nerves. We promised her IV sedation so she would sleep through it.

The Result: The day after surgery, Sandra called us. She hadn't even taken a pain pill. She said, "The anticipation was 100 times worse than the reality. The process was so organized, and I felt taken care of every step of the way."

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I be without teeth during the process?

Never. Whether it is a single front tooth or a full arch, we always have a plan for a temporary aesthetic solution ("flipper," temporary crown, or fixed bridge) so you can smile confidently while you heal.

Why does it take months to heal?

The implant is not just a screw; it mimics a root. Your bone needs time to grow into the microscopic pores of the titanium surface. Rushing this process can lead to implant failure. The wait ensures a lifetime of stability.

Do I need a bone graft?

If your 3D scan shows that your jawbone is too thin to hold an implant, yes. We can often perform a simple Bone Graft at the same time as your extraction or implant placement to rebuild the foundation.

Is the surgery painful?

Most patients report less discomfort than with a tooth extraction. You are completely numb during the procedure. Post-op soreness is usually managed easily with over-the-counter ibuprofen and Tylenol.

How do I prepare for surgery?

If you are having sedation, you will need a driver and should not eat for 6 hours beforehand. We will provide a simple pre-op checklist to ensure you are ready for a smooth, easy day.
