Dental Cleanings & Exams: The Foundation of a Lifetime Smile

Great oral health doesn't happen by accident. It starts with a commitment to preventative care. While brushing and flossing at home are essential, they simply cannot remove the hardened plaque (tartar) that builds up over time in hard-to-reach areas.

At Gardens Implant & Cosmetic Dentistry, we provide more than just a "cleaning." We provide a comprehensive wellness visit.

Our goal during your routine check-up is to catch small issues before they become big, expensive, and painful problems. Whether it has been six months or six years since your last visit, our judgment-free team is here to help you get back on track to a healthy, confident smile.

EXPERTISE

Why Choose Gardens for Your Preventive Care?

We believe a dental visit should be the most relaxing part of your day. Here is why patients in Palm Beach Gardens love our hygiene team:

  • The "White Glove" Experience: Our registered dental hygienists are renowned for their gentle touch. We take the time to ensure you are comfortable, using warm water and sensitive techniques to clean your teeth without discomfort.

  • High-Tech Diagnostics: We use ultra-low radiation digital X-rays and intraoral cameras. This allows us (and you!) to see exactly what is happening inside your teeth and under your gums on a high-definition screen.

  • Total Health Focus: We don't just look for cavities. We screen for oral cancer, gum disease, and signs of systemic health issues like diabetes or sleep apnea that often show up in the mouth first.

  • Patient Education: We don't lecture; we partner with you. We will show you personalized tips and tools to improve your home care routine based on your specific needs.

PROCEDURE

What to Expect During Your Visit

A standard cleaning and exam typically takes about an hour. Here is our thorough process:

  1. Diagnostic Imaging: If you are a new patient or due for updates, we take digital X-rays to check for hidden decay, cysts, or bone loss between the teeth.

  2. The Doctor's Exam: Dr. Sujit Shakya or one of our specialists will perform a tooth-by-tooth exam. We check for cracks, wear, loose fillings, and early signs of decay. We also perform a comprehensive Oral Cancer Screening.

  3. Plaque & Tartar Removal: Your hygienist will gently remove plaque and calculus (tartar) from above and below the gumline using specialized instruments. This is crucial for preventing gum disease.

  4. Polishing & Flossing: We polish your teeth to remove surface stains from coffee or tea, leaving them feeling slick and looking bright. We finish with professional flossing.

  5. Fluoride Treatment: Based on your risk for cavities, we may apply a professional fluoride varnish to strengthen your enamel until your next visit.

TESTIMONIAL

Patient Success Story: No Judgment, Just Care

Actual Patient Scenario

The Challenge: "Michael," a 40-year-old software engineer, hadn't been to the dentist in five years. He felt guilty and embarrassed about the condition of his teeth. He feared he would be scolded for waiting so long, so he kept putting it off.

The Solution: He finally booked an appointment at Gardens Implant & Cosmetic Dentistry. From the moment he walked in, our team put him at ease. We welcomed him warmly and told him, "The past doesn't matter; we're just glad you're here today."

The Result: Michael received a thorough cleaning and a plan to fix two small cavities. He left feeling fresh and relieved. He told us, "I built it up in my head to be a nightmare, but it was actually relaxing. I'll never skip a cleaning again."

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I get a cleaning?

For most healthy patients, the American Dental Association recommends a check-up and cleaning every six months. If you have a history of gum disease, we may recommend visiting every 3 to 4 months to keep bacteria under control.

Does a cleaning hurt?

It should not be painful. If you have sensitive teeth or gums, please tell us! We can use numbing gel or special desensitizing polish to make sure you are comfortable throughout the entire cleaning.

Why do I need X-rays?

X-rays allow us to see what the naked eye cannot: decay between the teeth, infections at the root tip, and bone loss. Without X-rays, we are guessing at your health. We only take them when necessary for diagnosis.

What if I have gum disease?

If we detect active periodontal disease (deep pockets or bleeding), a regular cleaning is not enough. We will recommend Scaling and Root Planing (Deep Cleaning) to treat the infection below the gumline and restore your health.

Q: Does insurance cover this? A: Yes. Almost all dental insurance plans cover two preventative cleanings and exams per year at 100% (little to no out-of-pocket cost to you). Our team will verify your benefits before your appointment.
