Whether you've had a simple filling, dental implant, or a full smile makeover, following these instructions will aid healing, reduce discomfort, and minimize complications.
General Post-Treatment Tips
Rest: Take it easy for the rest of the day following your procedure.
Pain Management: Use prescribed or over-the-counter pain medication as directed.
Oral Hygiene: Brush gently and avoid the treated area for the first 24 hours unless otherwise advised.
Diet: Stick to soft foods and avoid hot, spicy, or crunchy foods for the first 1–2 days.
Hydration: Drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol or carbonated beverages.
Specific Instructions by Treatment Type
After Fillings
Avoid chewing on the treated side until numbness wears off.
Mild sensitivity to temperature or pressure is normal and should subside within a few days.
After Dental Implants
Avoid disturbing the surgical site for the first few days.
Use ice packs to manage swelling.
Rinse with saltwater (no mouthwash) starting 24 hours after the procedure.
After Extractions
Bite down gently on gauze to control bleeding.
Do not rinse, spit, or use straws for the first 24 hours.
Avoid smoking for at least 72 hours to prevent dry socket.
After Teeth Whitening
Avoid colored beverages like coffee, wine, or soda for at least 24 hours.
Stick to a “white diet” to maintain your results.
After Veneers or Crowns
Avoid sticky or hard foods for at least 24–48 hours.
Sensitivity is normal and should improve as the tissues heal.

Swelling that worsens after 2–3 days
